We went to Temple Square. We were there as soon as the lights turned on. Although it wasn't quite the same without snow. While taking this picture I sat in a puddle of water.

We started off our day eating sushi at Tepanyaki. YUM! I love sushi.

This temple is so beautiful and majestic. I haven't even gone there yet to do a session. Lame! But I will. I went for my cousin's sealing. So I have been inside once. I am so thankful for the pioneers, and the prophets who sacrificed so that we could enjoy all this. We got the movie 17 Miracles for christmas, and I was bawling my eyes out. why did they have it so hard and we have it so easy? It was physically hard for them. But maybe it is harder spiritually and emotionally now as much as it was physically for them. Anyway, I am in awe of Henderson and Jehu, who crossed the plains, the former in the Mo. Battalion and the later in a handcart co. Actually Kenny's ancestors crossed the plains too, and his relative was Parley p Pratt! So I am certain that our ancestors at least crossed paths. weird.

Maggie and Olvia's first real big birthday party

First the kids decorated their crowns.

Here they are "slaying the dragon" pinata! So fun!

We had cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, chocolate dipped marshmallows dipped in sprinkles, and cake. The marshmallows were the hit of the party. I think anything on a stick, and anything with sprinkles is a winner for the kids.

We had a party! It was a princess and knights party.

There is Jack in the back with his shield. The boys got shields. And the girls ended up with shields too:)

So the party was a success. I was happy that it went well. When the kids started showing up they decorated their crowns and shields. After all the kids finished we played some party games. We played pass the slipper, find the slipper, we had a royal ball with freeze dance. Then they played and danced to jack johnson music for a bit. Then we read the paper bag princess. The girls are in love with this book. So glad we got it. After we read the book I asked the kids if being a princess is really just about having nice clothes, and they shouted "yes". I ended the discussion shortly after that and we went downstairs to slay the dragon. Daddy and Uncle Trevor helped with the dragon.
After the dragon was beheaded we came upstairs for cake and presents! So fun. Thank you to all our friends and family who came and shared in our celebration. Thank you catherine for taking pictures and Alice for helping with the crowns and jewels. We had so much fun.

Santa and a horse carriage ride

It seems weird that it's Christmas because there is no snow. It's like a California christmas. We had fun tonight visiting Santa at the Riverwoods. There were tons of lights everywhere and we waited in line for an hour for a free carriage ride. Oh well. The girls told santa they wanted a "dolly" Well, Maggie said she wanted a dolly and then Olivia said she wanted a bigger giant dolly. Good times.

The other day we were going to take the girls to the park. But the parking lot was full because of soccer games, so we left and decided to try out a pumpkin patch/cor maze nearby. It was a BLAST! It was a little family owned business with tons of cool pumpkins, bounce houses. Kenny and I really liked this and want to make it next year.It's got pumpkins growing on vines! How cool is that. Very fun.

I came across this awesome quote by Elder Joseph B Wirthlin while preparing for sunday's lesson. I love it:

"I urge you to examine your life. Determine where you are and what you need to do to be the kind of person you want to be .Create inspiring, noble and righteous goals that fire your imaginations and create excitement in your heart. And then keep your eye on them. Work consistently towards achieving them."

I think this is a good reminder for me.

And Olivia is just cute.

Ghost Cat

I was shopping at Joann's fabrics last week and saw a cat decoration and thought to myself, "I could totally make that myself". And I did. I took the old sheets that used to be hanging as curtains in the camper and made a cat! (I also made some cuter curtains for the camper, maybe I'll get some pics of that) Olivia was watching me make it and wanted to help, I said yah, but didn't think anything of it when I left the room to get something.
When I came back into the kitchen she had scooted the chair over and was painting the cat with white fabric paint that I had used for the eyes. I was a little shocked, but then laughed and let her and Maggie go to town. It's not like it cost me anything! NOw it's our scary ghost cat. She likes to carry it around and put it different places. And they want to show it to our neighbor Peggy, (They are obsessed with Peggy they always want to go over to her house)

Living life and loving it. and free stuff doesn't hurt.

We are having fun at the park

We went to the mountains to ride our new scooters that Kenny got for free. Let me just say, that Kenny is scrappy. Our friend works as the maintenance guy at an apartment complex in Provo. He said we could have some scooters that had been sitting for years in the parking lot. Of course there was a gleam in Kenny's eye when he heard this, and now we have two scooters. Pretty fun I have to say. Originally we were going to fix them and sell them to get a 4 wheeler. But we aren't sure.

This weekend we went up to Squaw Peak. It was SO beautiful. Maggie and Olivia picked a bushel of pretty red, orange and yellow leaves. She needed 5 to 10 for preschool this week. We picked a little more than that. It made me think of John Adams. Weird huh? I read David Mccullaugh's biography this summer. He and his wife were two GREAT people, salt of the earth people. They were also very stalwart in their simplicity. At the end of his life, Adams retired to his home in the country called Peacefield. One winter day close to the end of his life he looked out the window on a winter day and noticed the bbeauty and grandeur of nature. He said something to the effect that the branches on the trees and the icicles were prettier than all the kings and queens he had seen decorated with their jewels.

Summer Ending

Well the last few weeks have been fun. Wakeboarding and tubing with Shannon in Washingston. Camping in park city, putting in new flooring, and mountian biking at sundance. Perfect way to end summer. Now the girls are doing preschool and we will fall into our new schedule.

We had fun at the ward ice cream social last night. They had a 'candy gun' A what you say? A candy gun. Like it shoots candy out of a cannon. 25 feet. While they were doing it, I said to a friend, I know that my husband already has a plan in his head to make one of these.

I made these crowns for the girls out of wool. I knitted them and then felted them in the washing machine so they are stiff. Pretty cute.

This dress was super easy. It was a garage sale find that I atcually wanted for myself, alas it was too small It was a skirt, so I cut the top of it off and made it into a little dress for Maggie. And Maggie loves to twirl in it!
This picture is out of place, sorry. But if i don't do it now I won't do it. We visited Grandpa Cox's grave on Memorial day. He was a war hero. I am thankful for his courage and bravery. He was a paratrooper in the pacific. Kenny says, those guys are crazy, and so that must be where I get my craziness from aka: wakeboarding flips, snowboarding, surfing, rolling cars...

We have been unpacking for about a week now. I have been going slow because a. Kenny has been working and need his help and b. I don't know exactly how I want things yet. Although I did paint the bunk beds white which took two days. I decided I hate sanding and painting. Do not like that at all. But the girls now sleep in beds. They are so grown up! Which is good for Olivia because she was due for an injury climbing in and out of her crib.

It was so fun to see Maggie dance! She is so cute and had a great time. It's fun to see her learn dance moves and use them. She is growing up. It's funny how she wore her princess crown to the concert. And in her second dance routine her class followed a group
that used wands. And as you can see in this picture, she totally swiped one! She loves wands and anything princess. How did I get so lucky???
Olivia can't wait until next year when she can dance too. In fact she knew some of the moves better than Maggie!

Camping in moab

It was so fun to get away to Moab a couple weekends ago. Although in my mind I was a wee bit nervous, it turned out to be awesome and I can't wait to go back. Next time we know where the good campsites are! The girls loved seeing and climbing on all the rocks at Arches national park. They really did, that place is Amazing. My favorite was the windows, or maybe the rainbow arch, because it was a giant sandbox of red sand. It was all pretty sublime.
The girls had a blast, except for Olivia at about 2 in the morning. She was crazy!! thanks to Kenny she finally got back to sleep, (wink wink) With the help of a little medicine.
Camping in the trailer was cool to, a lot nicer than in the tent, and god thing because the first night we were there it was raining and windy all night long. I though we were going to end up in the river.
My highlight was slickrock. I have heard about it for a long time, and finally got to try it, and it was So much fun. The rock is not slick at all, it actually grips your tires. So fun. I hoping kenny will start biking with me, so next time we go down we can do it together, and next time I will remember my helmet.
A few things we learned:
1. Don't camp right next to the campsite host. (They stare at you all day)
2. Have all the food you want prepared as much as you can beforehand
3. Bring dish soap
4. Smores work a lot better in the microwave
5. It might be worth it to invest in a big cast iron skillet

Well, he's official now! A utah correctional officer. And the icing on the cake, this time he won the ward for best shooting!! Good Job Kenny (he should win that one right?). I am so happy and blessed to have a husband like Kenny. He works hard to take care of us and he even does so much at home. I am glad to have a man like him!
At the graduation we attended a class for the family, and the girls lasted about five minutes, so we went outside for a little photo shoot. That didn't really work either, they don't stay still for long. But they are cute, and I wouldn't trade them.

Log cabin fever!

Maggie loved the princess place at Cornbelly's she spent hours there!! It was so cool, they had dresses for the girls to play in and a play house and a bouncehouse. Awesome.

What a fun Holiday. As the girls get older everything gets better!! They both love pumpkins, witches and ghosts. Olivia especially likes to say: " Milk..Snow...A Ghost!" Which are all things that are white ;) We had fun with Cynthia and Kaylie carving pumpkins the other night. Maggie won't touch the inside goo, because it is "dirty". They both don't like it when their hands are dirty!!

Barf, Pee, and Treats, Oh my!

Two things, Two girls. Yesterday while we were sitting a the dinner table, Olivia was amusing herself by sticking her fist down her throat and gagging. I thought to myself: "She is going to make herself throwup, I should make her stop." But I didn't make her stop because I was feeling lazy. Well, sure enough a couple minutes later, she totally barfed all over herself, and the floor. Gross.

Maggie is in the middle of potty training! She is gradually moving towards diaper independence. It's fun to see her grow up and do more. She has to do it in her own and way and time, she gets really mad when we forget that. Anyway, she went potty yesterday and I gave her a treat as a reward. A few minutes later she said, "Treat!" I said, If you want a treat you have to pee pee." So she sat on her portable potty we have in the living room and went pee. Albeit a tablespoon of pee, nonetheless it was pee. And she got a treat.

What funny girls we have here. Here Olivia is documented doing her fierce mood swing. It must be tough to be so little! Olivia is talking pretty well, almost as much as Maggie! But that isn't saying much because Maggie refuses to talk to us. Occasionally Olivia will be singing "Jesus Want's Me For a Sunbeam'. It's cute because she says 'sun- beat'.

Or should I say, Maggie knows how to party. We spent five days with two sets of cousins at grandma's house in Sacramento last week. A total of 11 cousins for the girls to play with. Maggie was going nonstop! I hardly saw her all week, she didn't even take naps, she would just collapse from exhaustion every know and then.
What an eventful week! Thanks again grandma for letting us invade.

Carnival

Today was wet and rainy but we had a fun time at the carnival. Seeing how it is summer and all I didn't bring coats for the girls to the Orem carnival. I honestly didn't think we would stay long, and I wish I had my camera. But Maggie was so funny. We went over to the Orem carnival and she rode every single ride! The entire time she was shaking from the cold, but she didn't want to stop! Even oliva did a ride. It was fun

This crazy day

I am thankful for my skin. Today was a crazy day, my foot injury hurts, I have to change my underwear every hour because I am on my period, and I am tired of taking to toddlers. Today has been nonstop. WE went to the gym, which lasted 20 minutes because I had to change my clothes. Then we went to the provo farmers market. That was pretty fun actually. There was a park there so we spent most of our time there. It's always fun to see all the cool stuff at markets like that. I was hoping for some homespun yarn , but didn't find any. Maggie was asking to leave by the end, so we took off. And I didn't realize how tired I was.
I forgot a couple of other things I wanted to do while I was in provo. Oh well, there is only so much you can do in one day when you tote around two little ones. I never realized how much my life would change when I became a mom. I saw this video on the mormon messages website last night (at midnight cuz I couldn't sleep bc I took two excedrin for cramps and headache) It's about this lady who was in a plane crash with her husband and lived, and her spiritual journey from learning to live with her body covered in 3rd degree burns. It is inspiring to see people like that.
I certainly want to enjoy my kids more, and look into their eyes and see the light and joy and really love them and give them what they need. After all, I have all my skin, I am doing pretty good.

This little girl is funny, she doesn't do this as much anymore, but she always used to stick out her tongue. she has funny mannerisms. For example, she will walk around shrugging her shoulders. And because her hair is so long it covers her eyes, and she won't let me do her hair half the time. So she tilts her head up so she can see under her bangs. She likes to read books, and she won't even let me read to her. Can we say independent? Kenny says she's like her mom. I hope not!

For kenny's birthday we went out for dinner at Maccarroni Grill, YUM. And Trevor , Cynthia, Lora, and Jon all surprised Kenny there. It was so fun going out with all of our friends. I can't remember the last time we did that! Plus we all used two coupons and saved a ton of money on dinner. We came back and had cake at our place. Trevor took some pictures, and all of them are of Kaylie! I hope you had a good birthday Kenny!
We followed up maccaroni grill with Tucanos a few days ago, and it was Goo oood. They bring meat on the stick to you table and cut off the spit right there. My favorite were the hot wings. Least favorite: chicken hearts. eeew. It was a very cool restaurant. It felt like we were on a cruise or somethng because it was all youo can eat and it was so nice. Good times

(sorry about the double) So one day the girls were playing in the curtains and I grabbed a few shots of them. Doesn't Maggie look so cute and grown up? She is a big girl! Don't be tricked though, she isn't as sweet as she looks in this picture. Like this morning as soon as I parked the car at the gym, she had horrible meltdown and I had to come home bc she wouldn't be consoled. But, most the time she is a sweetheart!

At the end of the day and Kenny s actually here when I go to bed I give him a run down of all the crazy things the girls did that day. Believe me, there is always a lot! He said I should put them on the blog, so I thought I would mention some. So, today we finally got out the door to go to church and Olivia wriggled out of my arms and ran over to a ball on the lawn, and Maggie took off running down the street. I mean running as fast as she could in the opposite direction. Then olivia climbed on the neighbors tricycle which was covered with water. Needless to say she got all wet and we had to go back inside.
Speaking of Maggie running away.... We went to Bed Bath and Beyond yesterday, and Maggie did pretty good- until the end. I was in te chekc out line and she found a patio set, which was okay becuase it was right behind out line. So i kept an eye on her while I was waiting in line. She loves to sit on chairs in the store. ( and she LOVES to get in the beds. She did this at IKEA. She takes off her shoes and climbs into the big fluffy cumfy beds and pretends she is asleep) So at the the checkout when it was finally my turn, I turned my head for less than a minute and I looked back and she was gone!! How does she disappear so quickly??? So the entire staff was using their walkie talkies and searching for her. After I did a lap around te store some lady had her in her arms!! WTH?? Luckily people are so nice and helpful!! I need to always use the leash. Yes I have a leash for my dauhter, after all, she does BEHAVE like an animal sometimes!!
She runs away all the time, but usually not at the park. I was looking forward to the ward BBQ at the park. I thought it would be great, the kids would play and I could talk to some friends. Yea right!! I couldn't turn my attention away, or sit down, because they were both running away, like really far away. I sat down for a sec, and I couldn't find olivia. I finally saw her across the field at the other pavilion stealing some mexican guys basketball. She was making her way to the tables when i got to her. Olivia covered herself in water and mud while I got food. She spilled water all over her shirt, she ran around shirtless for the rest of the time.
But the clincher is this. Maggie was sitting next to me at the table. She got off and ten seconds later I couldn't see her. So ran to the park, I found olivia, but where o where has my little girl gone?? Ahh, there she is- she ran in to the tennis courts and chased the guy with the tennis racket around on the court. The site of it made me laugh so hard I peeed my pants. Some ladies showed up asked if she was mine. They found her in the PARKING LOT!!
This is why my favorite time of day is bedtime!!!!!

Girls first easter egg hunt!!

It has taken me a long time to post our easter pics, sorry. I'm sure that you were anticipating them. Well, it was fun doing our first easter egg hunt. I had so much fun doing this as a kid, (thank you mom for taking us easter hunting) Mom used to drive us to a couple of the grocery stores and we would load up on candy. You got to love Utah!! We went to Smiths, which is my fav grocery store! They just dumped a shopping cart full of candy in the aisle and let the kids go. At first the girls just stood there and watched, then they both picked up a sucker and started eating it. They finally figured out what was going on!! They got sooo much candy too. There was hardly even a crowd!!
We jettted over to the Orem rec center right after smiths(and I regretted it). It was freezing cold that morning, and they only got two eggs! We saw Cynthia and Kaylee for a sec that was cool. The funniest thing about that hunt, was as I sat in traffic lined up to get into the parking lot all these kids were jumping out of cars and running towards the field with their easter baskets. The anticipation is almost more fun than the actual hunt!
Sunday morning the girls woke up to their easter stash and tons of candy ( I bought way too much candy) They didn;t really get the hunt. I should of set up the picture hunt that I planned on doing. Kenny ssaid it would be too confusing, but I would have worked. They got tutu's and books and chalk and a beach towel, and The princess and the frog(which I got for a good deal with coupons) They had a fun morning!
The best part was conference, and then of course the yummy ham and potatotoes we had for lunch and dinner!

My Little Maggie

How did I end up with such a girlie girl? She loves dresses! especially twirly ones, and she changes outfits at least three times a day. We were at our friends place, John and Lora, and she did a photo shoot with her nice camera. Maggie was hamming it up for sure. Lora let maggie wear this poofy skirt which we had to tie up so it would stay on. She is starting to talk now. My baby is growing up !!

Olivia rarely lets me do her hair these days. However, she was distracted so I got a ponytail on! Normally her hair hangs over her eyes and she tilts her head up to see. Tubing at soldier hollow

We went to our ward activity last week at soldier hollow outside of heber, and it was a blast. It is a tube park where they tow you up the hill in a tube. It's now work, and all fun. And luckily I had a friend watch olivia for me while I took Maggie. She was so brave, because they wouldn't let me hold her in my lap on the tow up the hill, so she had to sit alone in her tube. She was confused at first and just looked around. She cried a little , but I think that was due to the fact that she was cold, of course she wouldn't put on a coat or snowpants. Her bum was wet from the first minute we got there. But she was a trooper, the first run was more scary for me than for her I think, it was really fast, I dragged me feet the whole time and I thought Maggie was going to fly out of her tube. She did good, even though we were stuck backwards! (which makes it more scary) But after we finished she wanted more! Poor Olivia, I ditched her with strangers! Daddy had to work :( He misses a lot of fun stuff. We are so thankful for daddy and all he does so we can do fun stuff like this!

Our trip to discovery museum

Last Wednesday for St Patrick's day we went to the discovery museum in Salt Lake. I thought since it was free we should go, and I had been wanting to go since we moved here. And since it was free there were tons of people. You wouldn't believe all the strollers that were parked y the entrance. There was hardly any walking room. And te worst thing was that olivia kept running off. I turned my head and she was gone. It was really scary the second or third time because I couldn't find her. I asked someone who worked there to help, and she said I had to come to the front desk and so she could write down all my information. I told her, she can go do that while I look for my child! How outrageous, lets go sit down and have a therapy session while your child is plummeting to her death or getting trampled on. Some procedures contribute to the problem instead of helping.
Anyway, my friend Alisa found Olivia. And yes, I have a friend. I have been wanting a friend, people to hang out with for myself and for Maggie and Olivia. It looks like we finally did it! Alisa and her daughter Amelia came with us. She is really nice and is a runner and a mtn biker, so i think we will be friends, (or i will make her). Is that overbearing? I wonder what people think of me sometimes. But that doesn't stop me!
Back to the Museum. Maggie was loving it, I am sorry i don't have more pictures, I was trying to keep my hands on olvia because she kept taking off in to the sea of people. There were so many cool things! The first was a big exhibit with balls and that is what the pictures are of. Maggie would fill up a plastic crate of balls, then carry them to the top of the stairs and put them in all the holes, then the balls would go through all the chutes, up and down and everywhere. She could of spent the entire day there! There was a lot more we didn't get to because of the crowds. I think I will go again because i have a two for one pass. And we will enjoy it more next time because it won't be so crowded. All in all it was a fun adventure, a little stressful for me, but fun for the girls. And as you can see the girls enjoyed it because they conked out on the way home!

These days are full of crazy kids going crazy all over the place. Hows that for a descriptive sentence? I know for sure that in the last two years of taking care of kids I have definately lost brain cells, because I constantly forget words when I am having adult conversations. But I have gained a lot too. I am so lucky to be a mom, and have a family with such wonderful girls and a great hubby. I ran into sister favaro and sister hulbert with their husbands at cafe rio the other night. It was so cool. It's strange that I have two kids, because I still feel like that girl sitting in sis. favaro's laurel class. She was such a great, upbeat, inspiring leader. I am so blessed to have known and know now MANY great women (and men) in the church. Along with my family, the wards I live in provide a second family where I have awesome examples of the person I want to be. To the women in my life- thank you!!

So as we were walking to church today I noticed that there weren't many cars in the parking lot. Then I remembered..stake conference! All dressed up and nowhere to go, for reals. So we played outside for a little bit, and took some good pictures of our cute girls. I can't wait for summer to come so we can play outside every day.

Maggie Maggie Maggie, why won't you let me dress you? Right now, even though it is cold outside, all Maggie wan'ts to wear is dresses! Dresses that twirl when she spins, that is the most important thing. I thought Maggie would be the tough one, but she is turning a new leaf with this girlie stuff. AND she loves to watch Strawberry Shortcake, she talks to it and sings along with it. Olivia on the other hand is the mighty one. She bullies Maggie all the time. She takes pens and toys and books from her, and maggie just cries!
Thank you so much Jeff and Bre for the awesome coats. As you can tell, Olivia loves her coat.

It hasn't snowed for a while, in fact the weather has been fantastic. We even played outside today for a while. But we did go sledding a few weeks ago before all the snow melted. It was a cold day, and Maggie wouldn't keep her coat or gloves on! So the look on her face is perfect, because she was freezing cold. I hope it snows again though, so we can play in it! And so that it clears out this awful polluted smog!

We are enjoying swimming at the Orem rec center. WE are taking a class, all three of us. AND Breana is in it too with cute little addlade. (sp?) We didn't eve plan that either. ALready olivia has improved and they just love it. Well, Maggie loves it more she never wants to leave and throws a tantrum every time. All the ladies in the locker room love her screaming. I would stay longer but olivia gets so ocld and shivers and her lips turn blue. So we leave when that happens.
We also found an AWESOME place to go swimming i n LEHI. It is the dream of any little kid. Indoor, heated to 92, slides, lazy river, TONS of fun stuff. So we will go there again.

Maggie is getting to be a pro at opening presents with all the gifts she's received from everyone. Thanks everyone! It certainly feels like we are blessed and not wanting for anything, except to be WITH you guys (you know it). We love you all, and most of all we want to thank our Heavenly Father for the many gifts he has given us, including His Son Jesus Christ. We are children of God, and He loves us, and sent his son to die for us. Even though this year has had it's disappointments (our pets heads are falling off!) We are still so blessed. My husband is still working, thanks to Bob and Kris who are able to provide him a job. Our two beautiful girls are healthy and happy. Maggie though, still won't eat much of what we offer, she pretty much wants chocolate. She is starting to talk more and more. She likes to get on the toilet and talk about pooping , but hasn't done it yet. And she loves to wear underwear.
Olivia on the other hand is kind of a bully. When she was born, because of her long eyelashes I thought she was going to be a girlie girl. It turns out she is the tough one and maggie is the girlie. For example, Maggie runs and hides when we get the vacuum out, and cries when it gets close Olivia will chase after the vaccuum and try to climb on it. And olivia pushes on maggie all the time and Maggie sits there and cries. It's pretty funny.
Olivia is done with formula thank goodness, now we don't have to spend our life savings on that. Now we need to get Maggie out of diapers.....

Orem

Where did the name Orem come from anyway? Well we are here living in the freezing cold city of orem, utah. It's pretty awesome seeing the snow fall, it's been a while since I have seen that. It is weird living close to byu I get flashbacks every now and then. There is tons to do with the girls here so i like that. I think it is funny (and annoying) that I have to call and reserve a time slot at the the daycare at the gym. I went today without calling first and they turned us away. Maggie was not happy about that.
No swine flu yet, at least I think not. Olivia still has a little cough and sounds stuffy, but no fever. Everyone is getting it. I personally think it is a conspiracy by obama to scare everyone in to thinking they need government run health care. Health Scare!
We are getting into a new schedule now and the girls are doing good. Olivia is standing all the time! Pretty soon she will be walking. She does a cute little dance while she is standing it is so cute. And maggie is ready to go! She is a little sponge and is starting to say real words. Pretty soon we will potty train her too. Her favorite thing right now is jumping on our bed. And thank yhou shannon for the bumble bee coustume, but maggie will not wear it.

I finished the dress, it only took about 4 days. But I was knitting alot, during naps and after they went to bed and whenever I could. I amgoing to make another one I think. I tried putting it on maggie because it turned out too big for olivia. And Maggie threw a fit! She will not wear it, so aybe I will gift it and make another smaller o ne for olivia. Kids!

Labor Day Weekend Fun!

We took a break from the job search and had fun this weekend. We started off by camping on friday night by pine flat lake. I can't say that the camp site was all that great, and we got there at dark. Kenny did all the work while I complained and tried to put the girls to sleep. Kenny is a trooper! A real boy scout. We had yummy chili dogs for dinner. Maggie slept in the back of the car because she couldn't settle down, kenny made it nice and cozy for her it looked pretty sweet. It was funny in the morning when I came to get her out, she was standing there in the back of the car saying "mommy, mommy!" it was the cutest thing. It was pretty hot that night too! We hiked around pine flat lake in the morning with the babies strapped to us, itwas pretty funny we should of taken a picture of that, Maggie on kenny's back and olivia in the moby on my tummy! Maggie fell asleep on the hike! Then we met up with Donetta, Bailey and Reese at the marina and played in the water while we waited for the petersons. Then we did some serious tubing on the lake because it was so choppy. Elle drove me and kenny and she totally threw us off! I got some tube burns on my elbows, but my favorite was seeing elle in sacrament at church the next day. She was hunched over and had her head bowed. Totally sunburned with tube burns all over her arms, stomach, and Chin! She was wore out. That girl cracks me up, I still can't believe she is in high school. She was in my sunday school class that I teach too. We are so lucky to live by family.
Including Jeff and Bre, after boating we came home and enjoyed Avery's 2nd birthday party! It was so fun swimming and eating yummy ice cream and bbq!
Monday we went to the park and had a great time because it wasn't too hot and there was a nice breeze. Just look at how cute these girls are!

Our little girls definately keep us busy. It's real fun when maggie throws tantrums in the middle of the parking lot and I have olivia in my arms. But Maggie is such a good sister and she is so loving and happy. So is Olivia, she is just glad to be here. I had fun knitting up Maggie's hobbie horse, she loves it. She runs around with it and goes "neigh, neigh" She loves all animals, especially dogs, cats, horses, cows, and the chinchillas. And we are sad to say that our cat, kitty cat passed away on sunday, so maggie will be sad. We will have to find a replacement after we move.

Yes oh yes, my favorite thing to wake up to in the morning is Maggie's bedhead, and this morning was particularly impressive. You see that pink clip? Yea, it made it all through the night, and I don't know how, it was hanging on to one tiny little strand of hair, it was so awesome, she looked like she had a fro.

This is Olivia's new crib, and the perfect picture, because Maggie does not stop moving. She had so much fun breaking in the crib for her little sis. Thanks daddy, for putting it together so quickly, you can do anything, like hook up surround sound.

Olivia is loving cereal. I have started her on rice cereal. Tonight i made a lot for both girls, and Olivia downed the whole thing, she was opening her mouth really wide too, and waiting for, before the spoon even got to her mouth.. The minute she saw the spoon, her mouth was open..

We did it! We bought a season pass to the zoo in fresno, which is good, because that is pretty much the only thing to do here. Plus three visits pay for it, and most importatnly Maggie loves it, and anything maggie loves doing we love doing. it's funny hw making her happy makes us happy, but it's true, and nothing else in the world can really teach you that, except in a family.

These are the things we have been doing lately. Attending protests, easter egg hunts, and just plain having fun playing peek a boo.

Maggie is such a ham! Lately she has been smiling and laughing. She likes to say "boo" and hide behind the curtain.

Tea Party, Fresno. It was cool seeing thousands of people in fresno. Our chhildren are learning at a young age to be politically active. While they are also at a young age, put into debt by a power hungry government.

Maggie actually did an easter egg hunt. It was the cutest thing. She really loved it. I thought she was too young, but what do I know. She loved eating the chocolate. Next year it's on!!

Easter with cousins. Grandma's house, or should i say hotel grandma was so fun. Maggie had a blast. she mostly enjoyed playing with cousin anna and claire, and climbing up and down the stairs, and playing peek aboo with grandma.

We love and miss our family when we aren't with them. We need to break ground on our own family compound soon!

I think you can really judge the character of a person by what children think of them. Children love Kenny. Thinking back to when we were dating, my niece and nephew Lilly and AMmon LOVED Kenny. My brother told them to call him"uncle Kenny" even though we weren't engaged yet. They loved him, and so do my other nieces and nephews here in Hanford. Most importantly Maggie and olivia love daddy so much. this morning Maggie was signing "daddy" and saying it and then walking over to the picture of daddy and pointing to it. She misses him when he is at work. If I were her I would miss him too, she has so much fun with daddy. I love to see that, more than anything else . More than doing the dishes or helping with chores. I love Kenny because he loves his family.
that includes his brothers too. I wanted to take a pictue the other night, but Jeff and Kenny were working on his truck, and it was s o funny, I could hear them talking though the wall in our bedroom, so i peaked out, and their feet were sticking out from under the truck.
I can tolerate his stinky feet, because he is so sweet to me!! Kenny, thanks for being so wonderful!

I read somewhere that doing crafts is good for your brain, so good, my brain must be very healthy becuase I am ddicted to crafts. This project I started midst another project, upon another.... But I finished, and i can't wait for the girls to wear them! Their easter dresses! Yay, It only took three days to do both of these, the pattern was easy, and they are small so they go fast. I had to undo olivia's dress a few times, because I didn't have a pattern for her size, I just sort of eyeballed it. At first I was angry and threw it across to room, Kenny said I could use it for teddy bear clothes. I considered that, but I got out the good ol seem rippper and improvised. It isn't perfect, but isn't that why we all love home made stuff? I also thought of an analogy while I was doing this. Here it is. Sometimes we want so badly to do something that we don't take the time to plan ahead and prepare, we just jump in. Like me, i didn't want to go buy a new pattern that would fit olivia, i just wanted to do it now. Well, jumping in without the proper pattern meant I had to spend time undoing and fixing the problems that I created. It is always best to follow the correct steps, and plan ahead. However boring or tedious it might be, Because sometimes prolonged desires lead to better outcomes.

Maggie is so funny. She is growing up so fast. She loves to spend time with daddy outside while he is working on his truck, and i think it is really helping her learn how things work. Not only that, today, i was nursing olivia and watching tv while she was playing with her toys and milling around. Then i noticed something, a couple of my shoes were on the tv stand, she was bringing shoes in and putting them on the tv stand! It was hilarious, she was real busy about it too, she ws in the zone if you will. Then, a litttle later she started just spinning in circles. I have never seen her do that before, maybe it is from daddy holding her in his arms and making her dizzy all the time, to my chagrin. I just love my maggie! She was really cute too, when she put the bib on that we got from Grandma Kris, she just put it on her chest and ran laps around the house. So cute....

brand new, just a few hours after birth

Olivia Lynn arrived on the scene Monday, December 22, 2008. Things did not go the way I planned. So here is the story. 6 am. We arrived at the hospital. 7:15. Dr. Lake administers induction drug, (not patossin) We sat and waited for some contractions to come for a few hours, they came but weren't painful and were very far apart. 12:30 Dr. Lake uses a huge wooden crochet hook to break my water. By 1:30 contractions were very painful and the nurse gave some pain medication and I requested the epidural. The nurse said I was next in line that the anesthesiologist was in a c-section right now, but she would come to me after. She said it would be about half an hour to forty minutes. Well, the contractions got worse and worse and there was still no sign of the epidural. Holy cow they hurt. I was hyperventilating and my feet and hands were going numb so I had to slow down my breathing by taking deep breaths and letting them out slowly. My nurse, who was awesome by the way, had a labor coach come in. she tried to help with my breathing. She kept blowing her breaths right into my face. At one point I was so annoyed I told her to stop blowing in my face! Kind a rude I know. But my nurse, and kenny were good, because they would tell me when the contraction was peaking and then I knew I was almost done. Kenny was so awesome throughout the whole thing. He was so supportive, he helped count down and he would scoot me around when I had to move.

He helped me get in postion with my head down on top of a pillow on top of the table with my back rounded out . Let me just say how much this hurt when you are having a contraction. And it is 3:20 ish, so It has been two hours of excriciating contractions. By this time I am yelling and swearing. Actually I only swore once. I just have to put in here, that earier in the day, while we were waiting for the induction medicine to kick in, the girl in the next room was yelling and screaming while me and kenny laughed at it.
So here I am now, doing my own version of yelling and screaming. At one point I was cryi ng because it hurt so bad and I thought I couldn't do this and the anesthesiologist wasn't coming, and she was supposed to- that was the whole reason we came to this hospital, because last time with Maggie, the epidural didn't come till 10 minutes before maggie came out.
Sso in comes this middle eastern lady and she wants to give me a spinal. I was like spinal, whats that? I had only heard of a spinal once, my friend holly, who whad one and it gave her migraines for weeks because they did it wrong. So I insisted on the epidural. So she started the needle in my spine. I had to round out my back and I am basically bent over and have to keep my head down, and she is taking forever. I had my head ont the pillow bent over in pain and she was still unwrapping stuff and getting ready. I will say the anesthesiologist at Hanford is way better.
Well, she gets the needle in and I start having a contraction, a kind of contraction that I had to push on. So she had to take out the epidural. The they decided to try a spinal. So I am still bent over on the pillow, and this time a bunch of fluids come gushing out and I feel the baby's head coming out. It felt like a bowling ball was trying to come out of me.
At this point they took the needle out and laid me on my side, but the nurse was holding my legs together while I was having the contraction. Momma mia that hurt so bad. The next minute Dr. Lake was there, I pushed realy hard with the next two contractions, and she was on my chest, all purple and gooey. It was crazy! Dr. lake said, just push really hard and you won't be pregnant any more. And I did, and I'm not.
In the end I am sort of glad I did 't get the drugs, becasue my recover is way faster then with the drugs. I was alert right after and got to hold olivia and nurse for an hour before she was weighed and stuff. We just got to sit there and enjoy the moment together. All of a sudden, the pain was gone and I was okay. I had a lot of adrenaline in me after that, I couldn't sleep that night. Giving birth is amazing. However, I will never do that again, I will get the drugs as soon as I get to the hospital.
My road to recovery is getting better, it's nice having kenny home because he can help me. He and Mggie have been bonding. The worst thing is my hip, it hurts so bad. It started hurting in the last week of pregnancy, on top of carpel tunnel, and heart burn. My poor body, pregnancy trashed it! I look forward to swimming and cycling, and eventually running again. I hope I can get to the gym soon.
Olivia is breast feeding! yea, because we struggled so hard to get Maggie to nurse, I pumped for two months. But olivia is getting the hang of it, so am I. We feel so blessed to have this child in our family. Heavenly Father has entrusted us with a little angel. It amazes me how this little baby is so unique and quite her own little self. We are so excitied to see her and Maggie grow together. Family Rocks!!

Maggie Turns 1

This month is going to be a crazy month for this family, i can already tell. Christmas time is already so full of things to do, parties, gift giving in remembrance of the Savior. We have the added bonus of Maggie's birthday on December 18th, and now our little Olivia's birthday, on December 22. Yep, it's true, after going to the Dr. he offered an induction and I will go in early on Monday morning. And I will be doing the selfish thing, and I will get an epidural. Whoo Whoo!

As for Maggie, her birthday party last night was so much fun. Besides the fact that she just got her one year shots that morning AND a flu shot, she was in rather good spirits. She danced, ate cake , opened presents. It was so much fun. All the kids that came dressed up in their Christmas formals, and we played Christmas music. so much fun. Maggie loved eating the cake, but I had to stop her before she ruined her cute dress. Silly mom, i didn't even bring her a bib. It is so hard to remember the simplest of things right now.
Two nights ago Maggie threw up, it was so sad. The worst part is there was nothing really that I could do for her. She was so lethargic. But the next day she seemed fine, and we think her little tummy is having a hard time adjusting to dairy, because wee switched her to milk this week.
Maggie has an even bigger change coming, and I think she knows. she has been so clingy these last few days, holding on to me really tight, which she never really used to do. I think she knows that I am about to have a baby and she is getting worried. None of our lives will ever be the same.

Yep it's true. She took her first steps at grandmas house on thanksgiving, and now she is burning rubber all over the place. It is nice, because it was getting hard carrying her with the pregnancy. We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of #2. Two weeks!!

Okay, so I love Halloween. it is so much fun. I love the colors, the smells, and the dressing up in crazy costumes. So this year we are starting early. We invited Jeff and Bre over to make these houses, they turned out so good. Everything is made from scratch, yea that's right, real gingerbread, no graham cracker cheap stuff. Kenny and I designed our haunted mansion ourselves. I told my class when I subbed, that they will always need to know math, because I used a lot of it designing this house. It was fun.

Did you now that September 17th is Constitution Day? Well, I am in the midst of studying the constitution myself. It isn't easy. It is not casual reading. I like this explanation the best,

the Declaration set forth the ends or purposes of government, and the Constitution was designed to provide the best means for securing these ends.

And here are some good quotes from the prophets:

Elder Oaks reminds us that U.S. citizens should follow the First Presidency's counsel to study the Constitution. (First Presidency letter of 15 Jan. 1987.)

They should be familiar with its great fundamentals: the separation of powers, the individual guarantees in the Bill of Rights, the structure of federalism, the sovereignty of the people, and the principles of the rule of the law. They should oppose any infringement of these inspired fundamentals. They should be law-abiding citizens, supportive of national, state, and local governments. The Church's official declaration of belief states: ‘We believe that governments were instituted of God for the benefit of man; and that he holds men accountable for their acts in relation to them. … ‘We believe that all men are bound to sustain and uphold the respective governments in which they reside.' ( D&C 134:1, 5.) In his address on the U.S. Constitution, President Ezra Taft Benson quoted this important observation by John Adams, the second president of the United States, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” Benson, The Constitution, a Heavenly Banner, p. 23.

So my question, like my brother Adam has said, is the American people a moral and religious people? Is the majority choosing good over evil?

Book of Mormon Prophet Mosiah taught the principles of good government:

25 Therefore, choose you by the ^avoice of this people, judges, that ye may be ^bjudged according to the ^claws which have been given you by our fathers, which are correct, and which were given them by the hand of the Lord.

26 Now it is not common that the ^avoice of the people desireth anything ^bcontrary to that which is right; but it is common for the lesser part of the ^cpeople to desire that which is not right; therefore this shall ye observe and make it your law—to do your business by the voice of the people.
