Haunted Gingerbread Houses

Jeff and Bre's haunted house.

This one is ours!

Okay, so I love Halloween. it is so much fun. I love the colors, the smells, and the dressing up in crazy costumes. So this year we are starting early. We invited Jeff and Bre over to make these houses, they turned out so good. Everything is made from scratch, yea that's right, real gingerbread, no graham cracker cheap stuff. Kenny and I designed our haunted mansion ourselves. I told my class when I subbed, that they will always need to know math, because I used a lot of it designing this house. It was fun.

Girls Just having fun!

Constitution Day: Sept. 17th

Did you now that September 17th is Constitution Day? Well, I am in the midst of studying the constitution myself. It isn't easy. It is not casual reading. I like this explanation the best,
the Declaration set forth the ends or purposes of government, and the Constitution was designed to provide the best means for securing these ends.

And here are some good quotes from the prophets:

Elder Oaks reminds us that U.S. citizens should follow the First Presidency's counsel to study the Constitution. (First Presidency letter of 15 Jan. 1987.)

They should be familiar with its great fundamentals: the separation of powers, the individual guarantees in the Bill of Rights, the structure of federalism, the sovereignty of the people, and the principles of the rule of the law. They should oppose any infringement of these inspired fundamentals. They should be law-abiding citizens, supportive of national, state, and local governments. The Church's official declaration of belief states: ‘We believe that governments were instituted of God for the benefit of man; and that he holds men accountable for their acts in relation to them. … ‘We believe that all men are bound to sustain and uphold the respective governments in which they reside.' ( D&C 134:1, 5.) Those who enjoy the blessings of liberty under a divinely inspired constitution should promote morality, and they should practice what the Founding Fathers called “civic virtue.” Dallin H. Oaks, “The Divinely Inspired Constitution,” Ensign, Feb 1992, 68

In his address on the U.S. Constitution, President Ezra Taft Benson quoted this important observation by John Adams, the second president of the United States, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” Benson, The Constitution, a Heavenly Banner, p. 23.

So my question, like my brother Adam has said, is the American people a moral and religious people? Is the majority choosing good over evil?

Book of Mormon Prophet Mosiah taught the principles of good government:

25 Therefore, choose you by the avoice of this people, judges, that ye may be bjudged according to the claws which have been given you by our fathers, which are correct, and which were given them by the hand of the Lord.
26 Now it is not common that the avoice of the people desireth anything bcontrary to that which is right; but it is common for the lesser part of the cpeople to desire that which is not right; therefore this shall ye observe and make it your law—to do your business by the voice of the people.
27 And aif the time comes that the voice of the people doth choose iniquity, then is the time that the judgments of God will come upon you; yea, then is the time he will visit you with great destruction even as he has hitherto visited this land.

Take time to enjoy the little things in life!

The zoo makes us tired. It was really hot too. But my favorites were the flamingos!

Maggie loves animals. She thinks it is a giant kitty cat.

This is maggie's reaction to a camel at the Zoo! It was so much fun taking her she really liked it.

Maggie loves standing, and she is barely crawling.

I just finished watching John McCain speak at the republican convention. I got to watch with fellow republicans at the republican headquarters here in Hanford. I have been trying to volunteer and get more involved with politics this year, as much as I can with Maggie. And it is so great to meet people that share my passion and political views.
I have to say that i really liked McCain's speech. He hit all the important issues: energy, less government, education, and national security. He doesn't think that he is god's gift to this country and he shared his pow story from Nam, and mentioned that his grandfather died the day he got home from WWII and he didn't see his own father much at all during the War as well. He said that he wants to be president so that citizens won't have to sacrifice what he and his family did. Is McCain qualified? YES.
I am excited right now, especially because of his pick for VP, sarah palin. What an awesome woman!! I can identify a lot with her and her athleticism, I have always thought how absurd it was that a lot of female athletes, that I knew personally and also saw in the media, believed that they had to 'act' like men to be a good athlete. They thought that being crude, brassy, and loudmouthed was the way to become a success. I see this type of woman in Michell Obama, just in the way she walks. She seems to me to have a lot of anger, and carries herself with that aura of manliness. And I have seen over the last month how her campaign people have tried to improve her image by having her wear dresses and makeup. But I know that she is that type of woman, that doesn't understand what womanhood is all about. Has she even shown affection for her girls? Certainly not for obama, she talks over him and won't even let him speak during interviews.
In contrast, Palin is a dream girl of this generation. She can hunt, shoot guns, play bball, she runs, and she is a mother of 5 and she is feminine, and doesn't scream into the mic when she speaks. She knows who she is, and what she wants. She has fought corruption and big oil and special interests, she has executive experience. She is awesome. I can't wait to see her debate "plugs" Biden.
I can't wait to see this newly energized republican ticket beat Obama and put him back in Chicago to get some real experience and not rabble rousing.
